About TakenYet
TakenYet is a naming tool. You describe what you are building in one sentence, and it returns brandable names, checks each one live against the domain registries, and builds a complete brand kit for every domain that is actually free. It is not a registrar and does not sell domains. The generator is the whole product.
Who it is for
It is for people who need a name and a domain in the same sitting: founders at the pre-incorporation stage, indie developers shipping a side project, agencies pitching concepts, and anyone who has spent an evening typing candidate names into a registrar search box one at a time. The output is deliberately usable rather than inspirational. Every open domain comes back with a font pairing that is free for commercial use, a colour palette checked for WCAG contrast, and a generated logo you can download as SVG.
Names are generated by AI and filtered for brandability: short, pronounceable, no digits and no hyphens. Browse the name collections to see the kind of output that produces, or read how it works.
Where the availability data comes from
Every result is a live check against the registry that holds the record for that extension. A domain marked available has no registration record at the registry itself. That is the same data registrars read, without the sales layer on top. There is no cached availability list and no guessing.
The checked extensions are .com, .net, .org, .io, .ai, .app, .dev and .xyz, up to three per search or all eight in Deep Search. Availability is a point-in-time answer, not a reservation: a domain that is free when the result renders can be registered by someone else minutes later. If a name matters, register it promptly.
How TakenYet makes money
Two ways. Searches are paid for: a one-time Naming pack is $9 for 25 credits that never expire, and Pro is $19 a month for 600 searches. Visitors get one free search a day, and a free account gets two plus 3 credits to try Deep Search. And links to partner registrars may earn a commission when someone registers a domain there. Those commissions are paid by the registrar, never added to your price.
Two rules follow from that. Partner links never change what you pay, and they never influence what you see. Availability comes straight from the registries. No name is ever marked “premium”, no searched name is ever parked or registered by us, and every domain gets the same set of registrar links regardless of which partner pays what. What is free and what is not
Availability checking is free. The paid tiers exist for naming volume, not for access to data. A visitor with no account gets one full search per day, including brand kits. A free account raises that to two per day and adds saved shortlists, search history and brand kit downloads. More questions are answered on the FAQ.
